Body. Heart. Mind.
Building the strength
to stay kind.
Hard times wear people down, and kindness is often the first thing to go. Kind City creates shared spaces to restore the body, open the heart, and steady the mind, so we have the capacity to lead with kindness when it matters most.
Where resilience takes root
Showing up with kindness, day after day, takes capacity. We help people build it in body, heart, and mind, so there's something to draw on when life gets hard.
Body
Warmth, water, rest, and nourishment. Caring for the body lets the nervous system settle and restores the patience and energy that kindness draws on.
Heart
Music and art that practice joy as resistance. Making something together builds courage and belonging, and reminds us that delight is worth defending, especially in hard times.
Mind
A sustainable meditation practice built on mindful breathing, walking, and returning to the present moment, inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh's Plum Village tradition. Calm and ease you can come back to.
Where we're starting
Two flagships lead the way, one for Body and one for Heart, with Mind programming to follow.
Kind City Baths
A community bathhouse built on one of humanity's oldest social rituals. Heat, water, and rest make space for healing and purification, shared side by side with neighbors, the way Roman baths, Japanese sento, and Turkish hammams have gathered people for centuries.
Coming SoonKind City Rock Camp
A youth music camp where campers pick up an instrument, form a band, write an original song, and perform it live. Practicing courage in front of a cheering room builds the confidence to show up for others.
Coming SoonKindness is a capacity, not a trait
Research points the same way again and again: whether people act kindly depends a lot on the conditions they're living in. That's why we invest in conditions, not just good intentions.
Hurry crowds out help
In a classic study, seminary students walking to give a talk passed a stranger slumped in a doorway. 63% stopped to help when they had time. Only 10% did when they were rushed.
Darley & Batson, 1973 · Stanford SPARQ summaryMany of us are running on empty
About half of U.S. adults report experiencing loneliness, according to the U.S. Surgeon General's 2023 advisory, which names social connection as essential to health.
U.S. Surgeon General, 2023 · AHRQ summaryKindness spreads
In network experiments, one person's cooperative act influenced others up to three degrees of separation away, including people who never met the original giver.
Fowler & Christakis, 2010 · PNASGiving gives back
A review of 27 studies found that performing acts of kindness gives a small but real boost to the well-being of the person being kind. Kindness helps refill the capacity it draws on.
Curry et al., 2018 · Oxford Research ArchiveCare builds capacity. Capacity makes kindness possible. Kindness, shared, makes a kind city.
Kindness that holds up under pressure
Anyone can be kind on a good day. The real test comes when people are exhausted, isolated, or afraid, and that's exactly when communities need kindness most. Kind City builds the everyday strength that makes kindness possible: bodies that are cared for, hearts that feel connected, and minds that can stay steady under stress.
We're building in phases, starting with what we can launch now. Kind City Baths and Kind City Rock Camp lead the way, with Mind programming to follow. We're building in the open, so the city can grow with us instead of waiting for a finished plan.
